Major upcoming Sporting events coming up: Part 1
Sports fans in the states may well be in for a treat in the next few months, with the sporting calendar looking jam-packed with a host of top-class action taking place throughout the year. This year has in fact the potential to be one of the most exciting years in sport for a long time. Whichever sport you’re into, there is an event close to home to get all pumped up about.
We’ve compiled a list of some of the most anticipated events lined up on the calendar for 2021.
Final Four – April 2 – 6
Stand aside for what is one of the biggest events on the sports calendar. Overtimes, Buzzer beaters and underdogs make for lasting memories in the final four semi-finals. College teams want to win the Final four because of the prestige it brings with it. The joy and triumph of reaching this stage of the tournament is what makes the NCAA tournament so unique.
The Masters – April 8 – 11
Not only is the Masters on of the top sporting events in the states, it is also widely considered as the best golf tournament to attend, let alone watch. The gold course is recognized as one of the most iconic in the sport, making this a competition that every golfer dreams of taking part in.
Kentucky Derby – April 29 – May 2
The joys and thrills of the Kentucky Derby has all the ingredients of a major sporting events not to be missed. The event takes place at Churchill Downs racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky where a total of 20 horses compete in the race. In last year’s event, the total prize money was around a mouthwatering $3 million, with an estimated $1.86 million going to the actual winner.
Indianapolis 500 – May 28 – 31
The 105th edition of the famed Indianapolis 500 will take place on May 30. Hailed as ‘The Biggest Spectacle in Motor Racing’, the Indy 500 takes place every Spring at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. A total of 200 laps and 500 miles is the traditional race length for the race, with an average time clocked at 2 hours and 50 minutes race time.
US Open – June 17 – 20
As one of Golf‘s four major tournaments, the US Open welcomes the top golfers in the world. This year, the tournament will be played June 17-20 at Torrey Pines’ South Course. Known for its’ fantastic scenery, Torrey Pines and the US Open will no doubt be a highlight of this summer. The 202 US Open at Torrey Pines will be the 13th US Open played in the state of California.
